Bhaktapur Durbar Square another palace complex of the Malla King's during 9th - 18th Century is located in the center of Bhaktapur. The Square is one of the most charming architectural showpieces of the Valley as it highlights some of the finest medieval arts of Nepal. The main items of interest in Bhaktapur Durbar Square are the Lion Gate, the Golden Gate and the statues of kings on stone monoliths.
Changunarayan temple has a very significant value in the history of the valley, it being the oldest temple in Kathmandu valley. Situated on a hillock, Changunarayan is towards the north east of the capital. Distant from the city's clamor, Changunarayan offers its artistic value supplemented with green vegetation and natural bliss. This two storeyed temple built around 230 A.D. is grand with carvings on each of its doors, especially the brass work done on the southern door, and also the main entrance to the temple is rare and exquisite and is unsurpassed among other brass work.
Pashupatinath Temple. One of the most sacred Hindu shrines in the world, Pashupatinath lies 5 km east from the city center. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga, or phallic symbol, of Lord Shiva as well as the noteworthy gold plated roofs and silver coated doors. This is the abode of God Shiva and is the holiest of all the Shiva shrines.
Chitawan: The Royal Chitwan National Park has 6 premier jungle resorts scattered inside its boundaries. These secluded resorts are the perfect place to experience the true safari atmosphere of the Terai. All the jungle activities are just a step away and there's always a chance to spot wildlife. Pokhara: is situated at about 827 meter from sea level, and is located 124 miles (about 200 km) west of Kathmandu and can be reached by plane in 35 minutes or in 5 hours by bus. Pokhara is the next destination after Kathmandu for many adventure and pleasure trips in and around Pokhara. Pokhara is often called the enchanting Himalayan valley with a heart of major actions and adventures.
Surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains, with a magnificent lake of crystal-clear pure Himalayan water, all-year round pleasing weather, and friendly Pokhralis will greet you with a smile and leave you with the most unforgettable moments in your life.
Bouddhanath Stupa lies about 6 km east of downtown Kathmandu and is the largest Stupa in the Valley and one of the largest in the world. It looms 36 meters high and presents one of the most fascinating specimens of stupa design with hundreds of prayer wheels and 108 small images of Buddha all around.
Kathmandu Durbar Square. This complex of palaces, courtyards and temples like Hanumandhoka Palace, Kumari Ghar (Abode of the Living Goddess), Taleju temple, built between the 12th and 18th centuries, used to be the seat of the ancient Malla Kings of Kathmandu. An intriguing piece here is the 17h -century stone inscription set into the wall of the palace with writings in 15 languages. The Durbar Square, protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the social, religious and urban focal point of the city. Even to date, all the major state and social ceremonies, including the solemnization of coronations are performed in one of the courtyards in this complex. There are also museums inside the palace building.
Dakshinkali temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, situated about 28 km south-west of Kathmandu . It is an important place of pilgrimage, drawing over 400000 pilgrims a year. Pilgrims visit this temple to offer prayers and animal sacrifices to the Goddess Kali every Tuesday and Saturday.
Chovar Gorge: This gorge is situated nine Kilometers southwest of Kathmandu . All the waters of the valley drain through it. Legend says that the god Mnajushree cut the gorge to drain out kathmandu Valley which was then a lake.
Kritipur is on a hill, 5km southwest of Kathmandu. In the past there were 12 gates of the town. Parts of the old city wall still remain. The main industry in town is the Kirtipur Cottage Industry Centre and most of the residents are either weavers or farmers. There are some great views of Kathmandu and the mountains behind it.
